Unite with us in prayer as we reflect on the life of Evangelist Ethel Mayfield Nelson, 75, of Bridgeton, NC, who died on August 14, 2025, at her residence.
She was born March 2, 1950, to the late David Mayfield, Sr., and Annie Gaylor Mayfield.
Left to cherish her legacy are her devoted husband of 56 years Cephus Nelson; three children Adriane Elliot (Arturro) of Decatur AL, Bryan Nelson (Frances) of Kempner TX, and Christopher Nelson (Shani) of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren Matthew, Bryan (BJ), Leanne, Bryanna, Cody and Chris Jr.; five great grandchildren; one goddaughter Estella Lofton Porch; two sisters Docia Lee (Michael) and Susan Barber (Thomas); sister-in-law Esther Mayfield, brother- and sister-in-law, Jim and Sarah Nelson; one aunt Vivian Gaylor; devoted neighbor and friend Otis Tutt, a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
The service remembering her life and legacy will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, August 21, 2025, in the sanctuary of Clinton Chapel AME Zion Church, 1015 Church St., New Bern, NC
Interment will follow in the Greenleaf Memorial Park, New Bern.
Public viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 527 North A Street, Bridgeton, NC, beginning Monday, August 18, 2025.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Craven County Dialysis Center for the loving and compassionate care they provided Evangelist Nelson over the past 18 years. Flowers are welcome, or memorial contributions may be made in Evangelist Nelson ‘s memory to the National Kidney Foundation, www.kidney.org.
