Mother Alma (Hawkins) Sutton

For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”  2 Timothy 4:6-8

Unite with us in prayer as we reflect on the life of Mother Alma Hawkins Sutton, 86 of Kinston died Thursday, December 28, 2023, at UNC Lenoir HealthCare.

Mother Sutton was born in Lenoir County on August 31, 1937, to the late Levy Hawkins and Carolina Davis Pope.

She is survived by one sister, Marion H. Mitchell of Kinston, NC; five children, Nevonia Holly and Cabarrus Bruton both of Kinston, NC, Dr. Thaddeus Sutton of Hampton, VA, Dr. Laddeus Sutton of Gastonia, NC, and Dr. Veleria Holloway of Winterville, NC; nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren.

The service celebrating her life and legacy will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, January 2, 2024, from the Trinity Funeral Service Memorial Chapel.

Burial will follow in the Hickory Grove Church Cemetery.

Mother Sutton will lie in state for public viewing one hour prior to the service.
