With heartfelt sorrow, we announce the passing of Mother Gwendolyn Whitfield Raindrop, a devoted mother, loving grandmother, and cherished sister, who transitioned peacefully in the early morning hours of Tuesday, March 10, 2026, while in the comfort of her home.
Gwendolyn was born on March 29, 1955, in Onslow County to the late Deacon Johnny Lee Whitfield and Mother Dorothy Lee Judge Whitfield.
She is survived by three children: Anica Whitfield Kelly (Melvin) of Kinston, NC; Bennie Raindrop, Jr. (Charmeer) of Kannapolis, NC; and Netalia Dunn (Patrick) of Richlands, NC; four grandchildren: Cierra Knapp of Richlands, NC; Cadeyn Bender of Kannapolis, NC; and Raelynn Dunn and Sutton Dunn, both of Richlands, NC. Additionally, she is survived by two brothers, Johnny Whitfield and Kevin Whitfield, both of Jacksonville, NC, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
The service celebrating her life and legacy will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at St. Paul Free Will Baptist Church, 7176 Gum branch Road, Richlands, NC.
Burial will follow in the Judge Family Cemetery.
An inspirational musical celebration will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, March 13, 2026, at St. Paul Free Will Baptist Church, and will resume one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
The family will receive guests at the residence, where they will assemble in preparation for the funeral procession.
In honoring Mother Raindrop's vibrant yet graceful spirit, the family kindly requests floral arrangements in shades of red and white.
