Mr.Van M. Freeman,Sr.

United with us in prayer as we remember the life of Mr. Van M. Freeman, Sr., 76, of 506 Brown Avenue, Cove City, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2025, at CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern.

Van was born in Craven County, NC, on November 11, 1948, to the late Van Dyke Freeman and Esther Mae Harris Freeman. He was married to the late Dora Ann Cobb Freeman and was a faithful lifelong member of Bryant Chapel AME Zion Church.

He is survived by five children: Van M. Freeman, Jr. of Raleigh, NC; Dexter L. Freeman of Jacksonville, NC; Brandy Freeman of Baltimore, MD; Deshona Cox Ingram of LaGrange, NC; and Natifah Freeman of El Paso, Texas. He is also survived by two brothers, Van Dyke Freeman, Jr. of Washington, DC, and Dennis O. Freeman of Cove City, NC; three sisters, Linda McCarter of Kinston, NC; Dorothy Freeman of Brooklyn, NY; and Sally Strayhorn of Cove City, NC; as well as a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, at Bryant Chapel AME Zion Church, 506 N. Main Street, Cove City.

The service celebrating his life and legacy will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, February 15, 2025, from the sanctuary of the Northwest "A" United American Free Will Baptist Conference Tabernacle, 682 Ten Mile Fork Rd., Trenton, with the Reverend Aubrey D. Godette officiating. Burial will follow in the Bryant Chapel AME Zion Church Cemetery in Cove City.

The family will assemble at the residence for the funeral procession.
